MF135 Perkins gas - PTO Cap

Hello,

I am reaching out for some help in identifying the right PTO cap for a MF 135 3cyl Perkins gas tractor, manufactured 1973 - 74.

At this time I have purchased three PTO caps:

1. 1868778 - Correct dimensions but the threads do not engage and hold. It reportedly replaces:

• Massey Ferguson S41987, S.41987
• Massey Ferguson 30/308-4
• Massey Ferguson 180313M1
• Massey Ferguson 1868778M1
• Massey Ferguson 897268M1

2. Sparex S.65894 - This was too big and did not fit the dimensions
3. 532888m1 - Again dimensions did not match

I've attached photos of the parts that I have purchased to-date and of the PTO. I would also add that I am missing the bolt circled in yellow too.

Any help would be most gratefully received.

Welcome to the forums.

Caliper to get the diameter and a thread pitch gauge to confirm the threads, measured on the tractor. It is possible that the threads on the tractor have been screwed up over the years.

You circled a stud in yellow, not a bolt. It looks like it may be 898088M1 stud 1/2" by 2-3/8". The end in the tractor is NC and the outer end is NF.

That stud is to hold the check-chain bracket onto the diff. housing, all that's missing is the nut and lock washer. For a replacement PTO shaft cover, begin calling tractor salvage yards.

Thanks for the pointers. I'll try and get a hold of calipers and thread pitch gauge to measure it.

I had a couple of other questions
1. Engine oil is currently SAE 30. I am in upstate NY and was contemplating changing it to either 10w30 or 15w40. Thoughts on these in the Perkins gas engine?
2. I have a small oil leak on the front crank shaft seal. Would any of the above oils reduce this?

I don't believe changing to a different oil will fix the crankshaft seal.

I run 15W40 diesel oil in my gas and diesel tractors.

I have a PTO cap listed for sale here in the YT Marketplace Classified section
1.75 Metric Threads. around 3 3/4" total height. around 2 1/4" Dia.
