On the west coast of California in our town, it was a ideal climate to grow avocados, except the winter months is was too cold. To keep the trees from freezing some growers used air plane motors mounted above the trees to keep the wind moving preventing freezing. When the growers found out they could make more money selling land for houses. the trees were pulled out. Dad used his 1937 Allis Chalmers Model M to pull trees for some growers. One of the growers had a air plane motor, with a large wood prop. that was no longer needed. Dad brought it home on his 54 chevy flat bed. He was going to scrap it for the metal. I told him would try and sell it for mote than scrap value, He already had the radiators off one on each side in the copper barrel. I found an Air craft museum that offered 200.00 for it. I thought it was better than scrap. The motor was a Hispano Suiza, a WW1 war plane. Today they are worth 20,000.00 or more rebuilt. I found that out later when computers arrived on the planet.
