It started making noise this week. Found both converters had a hole right where what looks like a small skid plate was welded on and one was missing. Looking at parts this morning and WOW what prices. Can anybody recommend sources for replacement parts? Lots of them online and prices are all over the place. It's a large Y-pipe with two cats. I'm still debating whether to do it myself due to my weakened physicality of late.

I've had very little success with aftermarket catalytic converters. Most of the cheap ones that customers insisted we put on have caused a check engine light with catalyst efficiency codes. We quit using them.

Possible to just weld the holes shut? I've done it more than a few times.

What prices are you finding and what price range are you looking for: $50; $500; $5,000? Ten year old vehicles are at that age they all need more repairs and parts supply chains are in chaos right now. Ten year old pickup are holding their value, so it is probably still worth repairing it even if it is expensive.

Well, I'm not a welder and the seams where the pipes are welded are showing some cracking. Truck only has 54,000 and I only put a little over 2000 a year on it so I want to keep it. Seen everywhere from $250 to over $2000 for just the Y with converters and the resonator, muffler and clamps could easily be another 4-500.

If no catalyst efficiency codes weld it up. I use to use walker complete assembly’s they came with a 5-year warranty but they dropped that to 2 years: (. It’s a fact you will never buy an aftermarket cat that’s as good are will last as long as OEM. All the aftermarket take offs I have had a scrapper does not want them I may get $10 for it but most of the time $5 are less.

Every time I have went aftermarket I cross my fingers. Some vehicles will not tolerate an aftermarket cat, OEM are bust: ). Exhaust shops use cheap cats they are no better than what you can buy they just mark them up a couple hundred.

It’s been over 8 years; no warranty, 8yr/80k on the emission control parts.

Yep, 11 years but only 54,000 miles.

Late model Fords will only tolerate OE converters. Got burned once at the shop, never again. We also see tons of Fords through the shop that have had cheap converters installed elsewhere that we then have to replace with OE. Spend once, cry once.
