1951 Farmall M Belly Pump oil seal replacement

I think I have all my info that I need as there are some great posts and video on this topic. When pump is removed I am going to try and unthread the drive lug(coupling nut) without having to take that whole cover off. Probably use long screwdriver or bar to keep things from moving. Assuming that the cover can stay on???

And in my picture here, do I have that shaft in the right position for lowering? I think that's what Kenny was saying in his video. That the slot on the coupling nut on the pump needs to be up and down so it lowers right out of there.

Your plan looks good to me. I've done mine in the past as you described without removing the cover. You do need a plan to lower the pump - its heavy. I've done it using a floor jack to lower and raise it and that works well with someone balancing the pump and someone working the jack. Its made for a couple of T shaped handles for two people to lift and lower but I don't know if you can find them. Someone could make them. If I remember correctly the drive lug is reverse thread and won't move easily. Good luck.

There is a tool you can make to use floor jack to lower / raise pump. Very simple. Search YouTube. That is where I found it.

The drive nut on the pump is right hand thread and since the drive nut on the counter shaft and it are threading into shafts back to back the same applies for the counter shaft nut. Watch the nut get removed in this video at 6 minutes. Squatch video

I used a pair of threaded rods and nuts on opposite corners of the pump to lower and raise the pump.
Took a while but gave time to properly align everything into place.
