MF 245 Fuel Filter Questions...

Background: MF 245 with Perkins engine.
After replacing the fuel filter and priming it, it leaks at the top.

Questions:
  1. Can a bent fuel filter cause it to leak
  2. Can you bend the fuel filter by over tightening it
  3. Can you break the glass bowl by over tightening it.
  4. Are there any tricks to get the top seal to seat.
As usual, you all are a life saver when it comes to me and my MF.

1. Yes, a bent filter could cause a leak. Is the top rim bent?
2. It would be pretty hard to bend the filter body tightening it. (I will say nothing is impossible for some people.)
3. Yes, overtightening, or cocked assembly, could break the glass bowl.
4. Did you remove the old seal from the groove in the top housing and install the new seal? Use some grease to hold it up in the groove if it falls out. The rim of the filter body needs to seat in the groove on that seal.

What brand and part number filter are you using? If it is a WIX type do not put a seal gasket in the groove (with slots in it) around the top of the filter.

The seal sat on in the edge, not within the edge. That's how it should be?

Grease, great.

The seal should be installed in the groove in the top housing, after removing the old seal from the groove. The rim of the filter then comes up against the seal in the housing head as the mounting bolt is tightened.

The picture below is from a John Deere, but your housing is similar as far as the sealing.

The grease to keep the seal in place will help.

Is the o ring on the 245 too? I put the o ring on the bottom of the rod to seal the bowl.

I'm hoping that's a John Deere thing.

Look up into the top housing. Some had both depending on which housing. Basically, you should replace what is there in kind.
