Flathead 6 Cast Iron Oil Pan Funk Starter Drive Unleashed

A little dramatic. This is off of my 48'. A former Funk collector mentioned to me that a Funk could have the tractor clutch or truck clutch. Following that logic I likely have the truck clutch. Eyeballing photos it appears to be the same 10 tooth starter drive as the 337 Lincoln/Truck engine. Can anyone verify this with a Ford 8EL-11002-B starter you have on hand?
Thanks

I highlighted and searched it, same Dennis Carpenter link as before. I think the search engine completes the missing information.

My first thoughts are yes it is the same and no it is not. It might have the same gear and overall size but is the spring wound the wrong direction? I know many early Ford starters were installed from the transmission side while the Funks were from the engine side of the flywheel. If it is just the spring that is wrong, you can use the spring from the bad drive in the new drive.

As for the car or truck clutch, the collector was more likely referring the clutch disc and pressure plate rather than the flywheel. Trucks many times would have larger clutches than a car due to the extra load, say 10" for a car versus 11" for the truck. The diameter of the flywheel, and thus the starter ring gear, most likely was still the same.

Your right, the spring and gear are a matched set though. They are both mirror images of mine. And your right about the flywheel also, if there were different adapter plates out there for different flywheels we would have heard plenty about them. Thanks

I have also heard someone say they believe these Funks shared starter drives with Miniapolis Moline. Can anyone verify that based off my measurements?

I just remembered the man that mentioned the Miniapolis Moline starter drive was very knowledgeable about Funks. Seems he met one of the surving Funk brothers in the 1980/90's.
