john deere lawnmower hood repair

On my snowmobiles I would drill small holes every one or two inches on both sides of the crack, thread mechanic's wire through and tighten.

Have a crack in jd plastic hood How can it be repaired?????
I usually find some dry very fine silt soil almost like dust. I mix that with water into a gooey slurry. Apply that about a 1/4” thick over the crack and set it in the hot sun a couple hours. After it sets up it’s good to go almost as strong as original. A little JD rattle can paint and no one will ever know. Also adding some strands of wheat straw across the crack will actually make it stronger than original.

I worked in a GM paint and repair facility and the Corvette specialist used a product called "Marine Tex" to add a repair panel such as a fender or quarter panel. It comes in a small can and is mixed with gel if I remember 1 part marine Tex and one part of the gel. You have a few hours to work with it after it has been mixed. I have used it on damaged plastic water tanks and gas tanks.

I helped a friend patch up a couple of Deere mower hoods. The hot melt-in staples were a great way to keep the ABS together while the exterior was treated to standard polyester (Bondo) filler and the usual preparation for body work. A little buffing and Omni clearcoat afterward and they would look like new. One of those had a cow sit on it, and yet they found all the pieces and brought them in, and it actually turned out O.K.

Just be aware that the melt-in staples really need to be sanded or flap-wheel ground flush, or they will leave a nasty sharp burr that will catch everything - Especially human skin. A little touch-up daubed on those on the inside an they disappear.
