Rebuilding Funk 8N Governor

I recently inherited a funk 8N that due to an apparent issue with a broken bearing assembly, had the governor removed and bypassed (not in the best way). Luckily I have the Funk housing and pulley but am wondering what all I need to rebuild this Governor and what the best way is to disassemble the pulley from the shaft (gear puller?).

Once I get it rebuild I will also need some help in getting it installed properly as the linkages are not making much sense. Any help is appreciated!

Congratulations on your inheritance. Funk used the stock 8N governor with the Funk custom pulley and Funk front mount plate. The pulley is just pressed onto the 8N governor shaft, so the best way to remove it is a press. Just be careful where you support the pully as not to break the belt grooves. The front plate will then come off. To rebuild the governor, just get your Ford 8N repair manual, I&T or other, out and rebuild it as you would any 8N. Looks like the shaft you have in the photo has a broken "wing" or whatever it is called. The shaft is stock 8N so will be easy to find. There will be a bearing in the front flange that should be checked to make sure it runs free and smooth, and if not, should be replaced.

As for the linkages, pretty much the same as an 8N. The rod from the hand throttle goes to the long lever on the governor, and the rod from the carburetor butterfly goes to the short lever. Attach a V-belt and it is installed. Use the instructions in the 8N service manual to adjust the carb to governor linkage so the butterfly opens completely when the governor is at its max speed limit. The main difference between the Funk and 8N in the linkage adjustment is that Funk gives you an adjustment and the stock setup requires you to bend the linkage.
