3-pt lift lever accuracy

I have a Brush Hog on my '48 8N. When shredding, I'd like to set the height and forget it. Unfortunately, I'm continually having to mess with the lift lever to get the height I want. It does finally settle in, but early on, it's a pain.

I'll push the lever up/down slightly and the height won't change. Finally get it to change, and then it'll keep going in that direction until it's higher/lower than I'd wanted it, so I have to bump the lever again. I'll go back and forth for this more than I want.

Any tips on correcting this?

I have a 2N with a Zane Thang for position control. Adjusting the mower height was always a fuss and difficult to repeat a consistent height. I finally went with limiter chains. Simple solution. I can reach the chains from the seat and adjust a link or two up or down when the mower is lifted, then drop down to the fixed height.

On my jube I also use the drop-limiting chains I cobbled together.

If the position control system is good, the lift will go up or down with small inputs from the touch handle. If no, contibutors are worn cam follower pin, worn cam, sloppy eccentric shaft hole in the housing, bent/worn parts etc. These are parts under the top cover assy.
My brush hog 8n holds the height setting just fine, doesnt need chains. I do raise or lower as uphills and downhills happen...

I confess.
The main reason for my chains is that I have slow hydraulic leak down and I've just been procrastinating on fixing that.
But with the chains I can still raise the cutter up when necessary, I just can't go lower than what the chain lengths are set at.

Thread 'Hydraulic Lift Worn Parts'

So, I pulled my top cover tonight to put in a new lift cylinder and as expected I found other issues.

The lift cylinder was the old 3 ring type and I already have a new style piston and cylinder so no problem with this.

The lift arm shaft is loose and moves around so that means I need new lift arm shaft bushings. That seems straight forward.

The cam follower pin is worn I have one to replace it.

The cam is worn pretty badly so looks like I need a new lift ram arm. I can weld but not that good so just quicker and easier to replace it.

The control arm moves side to side...
