Case 1947 SE Series Engine

I just got this engine with very little information from previous owner. It is the 154 ci SE engine, stand alone power unit. I thought it had a leaky rear main but I have just found out it has a “wet clutch” and no rear main seal. Can someone with first hand knowledge help me understand where this oil might be coming from and what is the rubber hose that is looped under bell housing. This old neglected piece of metal still cranks and purrs like a kitten. I really don’t want to go into a complete restoration I just hope there is an easy fix. I only need it to turn a 20” Meadows gristmill. Thanks for any help

Hose would appear to be oil drain from bell housing. What is the other end? Oil leakage could be from seal around clutch lever or output shaft. Seepage between bell housing and engine block another possibility, although less likely. I would clean up the oil currently and then run it for an hour or 2, observe where oil is originating.

they use a WET clutch, supposed to be there

As you have been told and Case Nutty confirmed it is a wet clutch, lubed with engine oil, my guess is it is weeping around the bell housing gasket as there is no apparent oil on the clutch shaft or the output shaft. that being said I think the hose is an add-on at some time in the past, the tractor engines used an internal oil return to the oil pan I'd think the stationary engines would do the same, here is a picture of a DE engine that has no external return line.

If you clean things up and then dust with flour, the leak will reveal itself real quick.

Thanks, every bit of information helps when I know nothing about this animal. That is a nice setup in your picture. I am embarrassed by the way mine looks but I really need to make sure it is what I need before I put too much into it. Is there a way to add a kill switch on the mag? I am currently shutting off the fuel and letting it starve out. Since I am out here mostly by myself it would be nice to have a shut off switch. if it has the original mag it will have a kill button on the bottom side mounted on a post there in the cap, if its there you just push the black button and make the tab contact the screw and it will ground out the mag spark, yes you can mount a switch on it to, one post to ground the other to mag cap post at bottom,
