What were you doing on 9-11

At work at Quality Spring, we always kept a radio on in case of tornados and learned about the first tower when I got in to the lab from the shop floor. Didn't really hit me at first, not much work done the rest of the day.

I remember that morning well, being a farm boy there is no public transportation readily available. At the time, I was also doing tech support over the phones for a local company about 7 miles from my house. Coworkers and I were having a conversation I do not know how it started, but I had stated that I would like to try living in a large city where I would not need to own a car, but only that style of life for one year with the option of going back to what is my normal after that. Less than an hour and a half later, we were hearing the news about the terrorist attack which completely changed my mind.

I was a rural mail carrier at the time. We were still in the Post Office putting up mail when it first came over the radio. After I left on the route, one of my first stops was at the school. I went inside and it was on the TV in the office. Right about then was when the second tower went down, and I got to see that. Spent the rest of the day listening to it on the car radio.

Not quite on topic but I've always wondered what Timothy McVey would have thought about it. Would he, like most Americans, have been angry or would it have made him feel like an amateur?
He was put to death exactly 3 months earlier on June 11th

I have several motorcycle friends who I visit often. If all we talked about was motorcycles I would get rather boring. It is nice to bring up other subjects. Stan

I was at jury duty. We were all sent home. stan

Sitting at my desk in Falls Church, VA watching the smoke plume at the Pentagon over the trees. I know a retired Navy Captain that had left the area where the plane hit. Had been in a meeting where it hit. He had to go to another meeting in D. C. and another officer had left to go to another area of the Pentagon. They were the only survivors from the meeting.

At work behind the desk at my job with the Kansas Army National Guard. The folks in the Bn Hqs got really excited. Someone fired up a TV so we spent the rest of the day watching the news.

Was in a fellerbuncher cutting timber, wasn't light yet when the first news came in on the radio. Spent the rest of the day alternating between sadness and rage.

Teaching welding. Just as we were getting going , office called and said to turn on our tv’s. Basically spent rest of day with students watching news.

I was a Senior in High School. I was in traffic court for a speeding ticket and the officer didnt show up so my ticket was dismissed. I walked back to my high school thinking it was my lucky day. Walked into the school office after the 1st plane hit. I thought people were watching a movie.

Watched the rest of it unfold on the school TVs.

I came out of a design review meeting and a coworker asked if I had heard that a plane hit one of the World Trade Towers. He had the news story streaming on his CAD work station. As a group of us were watching we saw the second plane hit the second tower. Things got worse and worse as the morning went on. Later he called over and we saw the towers fall. Our production line did not shut down but output was understandably low that day.

At the time my late brother was an officer on Offutt Air Force Base, the home of the Strategic Air Command. He said the base went on total lock down. The only thing in the air around Omaha for the rest of the day was their AWACs planes. They were prepared for if Air Force One should need to land there.

Back in 1986 when the Challenger spacecraft blew up someone wheeled a TV into an open area to for employees to watch the disaster news unfold. On September 11, 2001 we watched on our CAD work stations. On January 6, 2021 we watched on our personal cell phones.

I had gotten off of work at 7:00 am and took the 3 oldest kids to school and came home at some breakfast and went to bed, wife woke me around 9:00 am told me to get up and see what was going on. I think we stayed up till one and we both watch it as things happened. It was a different night in the plant as everyone was trying to keep up on what was going on.

I was in prison!! Working construction! As soon as I saw the first tower hit, I said to others" That is going to collapse" I wish I had been wrong!

I was working on a house by Nodine MN. Saw a plane turn around and go back to the airport.

I was building a log home in the Catskills with a view toward the Hudson, who knows maybe could see the contrail of one of the planes. Had the radio playing and heard the first hit and thought small plane, later the second, finished out the day and watched the news when I got home.

Working for a farm equipment dealer. Saw most of it on the television one of the owners had in the office.

Happened to be in house after morning chores ,and watching TV and burning tower hit by plane. My daughter was home from visiting a friend in Bahrain and got a call from a friend there who wanted to know what was going on. We had no idea the towers would fall down and the friend had been paying for pilot trining in the US just like the terrorist pilots.

Headed to work for another farmer. Couldn't find any country music on any station we could get in those mountains. Got to work and the farmer had the tv on and called us in to watch. Sad day for sure.
