What were you doing on 9-11

A chebby dealer was delivering a new engine the delivery driver told me what had happen. At that time business was fantastic as good as it had been for me. It took several years after this event before things got back to normal. It was not a good time to be self-employed.

I was taking cured tobacco from the barn here and getting it ready for the market. I had a small black and white portable tv where I was working. After the second plane hit the tower I came to the house and sat by the better tv for awhile. I was sad and mad at the same time. I later called an uncle who lived in Northern Virginia to check on him. He said things got really busy in a hurry around DC.

I have several motorcycle friends who I visit often. If all we talked about was motorcycles I would get rather boring. It is nice to bring up other subjects. Stan
Sorry Stan. I wasn't trying to be a smart A or anything. The Mcvey thing was just a thought I've had many times.
I was working - tiling a shower for a customer out in the suburbs. He was watching CNN and said there was a big fire downtown. I thought Minneapolis? Turned out to be a Lot worse than a fire.
It changed us as a people. Prior to that we were snug and smug in our own land and the wars and terrorism were always in far away places.
Ive also wondered what my dad would have thought. He passed a few months before 9/11. He was a WWII Army Vet that had come home from the war to a peaceful life.
I'm glad he didn't see it.

Running the barn cleaner cleaning barn. Stood at the post leaning on the scarper listening to the radio. At the time thought somebody is having a really bad day. Most vivid recollection was how quite and peaceful it was when the planes got grounded.

Company I was with was cohosting a conference in Birmingham of the American Coke Coal and Chemicals Institute(ACCCI). Every coke plant in the U.S. plus Canada had representatives at it. Everybodies phone went crazy. The manager of the facility, the Galleria, came by and opened the bar doors so we could watch it on tv. Result was a bunch of big burly steel workers getting teary eyed.

Stopped in town on my way to work hay on another farm. My neighbor told me about it in the store parking lot. Went on and raked hay, went to lunch at another farmer’s house. We ate tomatoe sandwiches and listened to the news.

That's what I was doing when Challenger exploded.

Working at Lot #13 Sargent Farms subdivision in Broad Brook,CT. Construction supervisor told us what happened as I didn't run a radio with employees.

I was just about to leave the house and go out and help a friend with silage chopping . I was rushing around and just had the T V yet to turn off when i saw the first plane hit and the second on the news feed . I was not sure what was going down and felt vary uneasy . Are we being attach??? . What now are we being invaded ??? I'll bet nobody out at the farm knows about this yet . And Farm life moves on so i turned off the T V and got in my truck and made the drive out to Vernon's place and told the guys what i had seen on the T V news flash . Vernon's farm set on the flight path to Pittsburgh Air port . But that day low clouds came in and ya could not see anything as usual . My job like always was bunker leveling and packing . Around like 12:30 we broke for lunch and the girls brought burgers tater saled and naked beans and the alixer of life PEPSI on clear days ya see planes coming and going up around 12-1500 feet sometimes lower . We stopped again around 5:30 for roast beef and fixens and went back to work into the night . Up on the Pile at night ya can see The light glow of Pittsburgh , Youngstown., Akron , Canton and Cleveland and the planes coming and going . The clouds cleared after dark and there were NO planes anywhere how ever ya looked . While we were having lunch at the bunker one vary fast and low plane came screaming over the farm LOW in the cloud layer that puppy was hauling the mail and vary loud It felt vary eere that night and when i got home we heard more of what happened that day bring deep anger in me big time . had i been twenty years younger i would be reinlisting and taking up where i left off to do what i did best years before . BUT now to old to FAT and way to slow .
