Oliver 1855 with john deere repower

I remember being at a john deere day and seeing a flyer with a guy that was doing repowers in Oliver's with the deere 329/359 engine. Had anyone ever seen one or have one? Think that would be a good repower option since those engines are readily available and reasonably priced.

A quick google search brought up a Farm Show Magazine story of a guy who put a JD 329 in an Oliver 1800, and what all he had to do to install it. 2002, Volume 26, Issue #5.

John Deere repower kits for Olivers came some time after the Cummins repower kits came out. Remember looking at an ad for this but not really interested in putting the wrong color green engine into an Oliver. We have one of the Cummins repowers done by the Cummins dealership in DePere WI to show everyone. Not quite the tractor that was pictured in the Cummins ads, a little bit rougher looking. Got a good deal on it after it sat at the Cummins dealership for 3 years. Still running today.

Yeah I know what you mean with the wrong color green, probably why it never amounted to anything.

The 359 was a strong engine that was introduced with the 50 series tractors in 1983. At first in the 2950 and a couple years later in the 4050 with a turbocharger. I would not be afraid of one.

A 1855 with anything but the factory Waukesha would be an improvement. That engine ran well until it didn’t, those rods would finally have enough and try to escape.

Me , My first pick would be a GM two stroke. That's what I ran for years on the road and had good luck with them.
