Pulling wood logs with my te20 Ferguson and 8n

Like has been said to prevent the tractor from flipping. One thing to note that those of us that have been there keep the rear attachment as low as possible to help prevent the back flip.

When the back flip tries to occur it can be one of those "Oh Crap" moments. Not fun.

Grew up on 8N and TO20's so yup been there before. We always used something back there to prevent the back flip. Saved my backside a few times.

I dont want to argue. But my dad had a. 8 n and had half tracks on back wheels,hauled 2 ft on the butt logs.,the tractor didn't even stand up.

This is a ten year old thread. Catching a log on a stump and the log flipping over on you is more of a threat imo, but be careful. All it takes is one mess up sometimes.

I had an old guy tell me one time that he hooked to the small end of a log when he skidded it too. Less weight on the three point to start with so less risk of overturning. The old guy died of old age,so I kinda have to put a little stock in what he said.

@rrlund very correct also skid logs from the smallest end and lift the end of the ground as force to pull a log is proportional to the friction produced by the area of the log contacting the ground.
Use a 3PT skidding winch if can afford it, as they have a feet or some other structure that will hit the ground when the front end of the tractor goes in the air preventing a backward roll over. The only thing with the 3PT skidding winch and same for a log skidder, you always want to winch or pull a log within a small angle of the center of the tractor, never at 90* to the center of the tractor as it will pull the tractor over sideways.

What I haven't seen mentioned is pulling side hill. A log , especially a larger diameter one, can get to rolling on the end of the chain until it bights across the tire and rolls you over. It doesn't take much of a slope.

I have yarded many logs with the bigger IH. Never had too much to do with my little fergi..I really just bought it. The log has to be lifted a bit off te ground,when you feel easy steering,slack up and lower tge log a bit

You’re correct, no harm done I was just curious. At least you now know how to see if you’re replying to a possible “ghost” or an active member. I would prefer if they would lock replies to threads that are over a year old like many forums do, doesn’t seem to be what they want here.
