Anyone buy or sell cattle last week?

I noticed prices were up a tick on fats and feeders albeit on a light market. Anyone sell or buy?

I wasn't foolish enough to take any, but the report showed volume down by a third and prices a few cents below the week before. Some fats sold below $2.

I'm probably going to sit on them another month before I take anything else. Maybe there'll be a compromise on the 300,000 tons. JBS was able to dump the stuff that was at the Port of Houston that China had already rejected, so maybe mission accomplished. I don't know. Nobody else does either.

The total headage they quoted in the market report wasn't broken down. Most of what was there could have been Holstein cull cows and bull calves. Again, don't know.

Right. I heard that about the rejected meat. China helping us out for once.

I just double checked to be sure. It says Fats $3 lower, bulls $5 lower, cows $10 lower. Keep in mind, that was down from prices that had already crashed. It sure takes the wind out of you sails. There hasn't been a day that I've had any enthusiasm for anything. I just keep thinking that if it wasn't for my son, this would be my last year for sure. Comes a time when you just don't want to do it anymore.

I've not been at it as long as you, but I already felt that way a couple years ago right before the higher prices. I downsized a bit. I was tired of the rat race not making any money. Luckily, for me I don't depend on it. Don't know how guys that do can put up with it. I think the prices will rebound mostly soon, but it sure does take the zip out of your step.

When I think about what some of this land is worth and all the places the wife and I could be and things we could see with that money, I get disgusted with myself for even being here. I'll tell you this much, if I sold that land, it'd be growing corn and soybeans, not feeding cattle.

Agree and I'm there. Problem is, to prevent a huge tax bill and resulting outrageous annual Ad-Valorem taxes for no longer being in Ag., you have to keep the place in Ag. Besides as I said before....to prevent the above if I sold out and moved to town and bought a house............I'D GO NUTS WITH BOREDOM!!!!!

Agree and I'm there. Problem is, to prevent a huge tax bill and resulting outrageous annual Ad-Valorem taxes for no longer being in Ag., you have to keep the place in Ag. Besides as I said before....to prevent the above if I sold out and moved to town and bought a house............I'D GO NUTS WITH BOREDOM!!!!!

I'd do it slow. Make that I will do it slow. At 71, let's be honest, it's going to happen sooner or later. If my son wants to keep his cows, that's fine. I'd offer to trade him cows or heifers for his steers and get rid of mine. If he wasn't here wanting everything, I'd sell the cows and calves both this fall. I'd give up all of my rented land for next year and sell some of my land. I could finish what I have here on the feed that I've got.

I checked with my guy in Lansboro (MN). Prices were up. 3.40 for 900#. 400# weight brought $5.

I bought 3 labor day, holstien bottle calf, black weaned calf and cross breed bred heifer, all down 1/3 from a month ago. But from what I saw black and most beef breeds were only down a little.
