You may be right. But it looks like the Hupp is farther forward than this one. This one looks to be almost inline with the shifter

Do you have a more complete picture? I believe the round pc above the handle is the tie rod end for the right tire and it's turned all the way to the left.

That picture is seller provided. Only one of that side given. I think you are right. I was hoping for a Howard. Not worth a 300 mile round trip

If it were a Howard, the shifter will replace the hydraulic chest inspection cover.

Doesn't a Howard addition add on to the length of the tractor between the hydraulic case and the transmission? I have never seen a Howard.

No, the Howard (shown below) fits inside the case without adding length.
The Everett or Auburn Trencher Gear Reduction Unit is the one you're thinking of that provides it's own case and extends the tractors wheelbase.

Dollar Bill, What exactly does the Howard transmission do? Does it make the tractor act like it has LTO or just slow the transmission down?

The Howard reduces ground speed without affecting PTO shaft speed. The Howard Company made the gear box to use with their 3 point hitch mounted tiller. IIRC, it was called a "Rotavator"
