Brake job on 790 parts list.

I'm getting ready to tackle the brake's on my 790. They're making a horrible scratching sound that stops after depressing them a few times and the parking brake does not work . Should new shoes rectify both issues? I am in a pretty remote location, so I'd like to order and have everything on hand before I get started as it takes a while to get parts here. Besides the shoes, what else should I order...... springs, o'rings, etc. ? (I could not find the brake section for the 790 on the parts section of this sight.)

Where is your location, a bit closer than "a pretty remote location"?

You may need to go to PartsASAP and use their parts listings for the JD790 to find what YT can supply. PartsASAP is YT's parent company.

You can use the link below to go to the John Deere parts catalog for the 790 and get the part numbers for the parts you think you want to get and use those part numbers to web search with, not just using 790 as an application to search for parts.

PC2732 JD 790 parts catalog

Google zip code 49782, it should show an island 32 miles from shore in Lake Michigan.

Thank you for the link.

The following are the parts I question.... should they be replaced too?

Input shaft sleeve packing?
Brake drum gasket?
Brake return extension springs?
Anything else?

I would replace them. I see a total of about $30.00 from John Deere for those items, if you can't find them in the aftermarket.

I wondered about that location based on your handle, but it is never safe to assume the meaning of a handle.
