1963 4000 Select-O-Speed gasoline tractor won't move.

The 63' I'm working on will not move when the trans is engaged. You can hear a noise, and it sounds like it's trying but nothing happens. I topped of the fluid but no help. Any Ideas.

The first thing to check is the traction coupler. It disengages the transmission from the rear end to allow for towing and service. It is operated by a lever on the hydraulic compartment side cover. Even if the lever has not been disturbed/operated it is possible for the coupler to become disconnected from the lever mechanism.

You need a service manual such as the I&T publication. You will find diagnostic aids there to narrow your problem down.

Over the years I have seen r/a broke , rivets on diff ring gear sheared , The most terrible could be splines on input shaft or torque limit disc worn enough to make some pressure but not enough to fully engage bands or clutch packs.

1. Hud torn out of the torque clutch,
2. Input shaft splines striped out on the transmission.
3. Very low on oil but not likely.

At least you got lucky and it was an easy fix!

Before it leaves check the adjustment of the bands. It doesn't take long and can make a big difference in how long they last.
