What is this?

[NDIHC]

I have one very similar that came from the railroad. I have no idea what it was used for.

[Phill Tibbetts]

I think It may have been used to splice in a section of train rail.

[38 Sears Roebuck]

I'll take a stab at suggesting it could be a counter weight for a railroad track switch lever??

[Mule Meat]

If it was used as a counter weight on a railroad crossing gate. It should weight about 25 pounds.

[Brian G. NY]

Horse block? I have a round one that has a similar small bar for hitching.

[Dusty MI]

I grew-up farming, my dad had a chunk of rail road rail 1.5 to 2 feet long, that we used for an anvil. Worked good for riveting mower sections.

Whatever they are, there must be plenty of them. I also have one. Don't know how or where I obtained it either.
It is Very Heavy and it is highly magnetic. The two holes you see go all the way through it seemingly to mount it to something.
