I didn't realize case made an air cooled engine. We had a hesston 260 and 280 swathers growing up with the air cooled v4 wisconsin engine. I never understood why manufacturers would put an air cooled engine on a machine that runs in the hottest time of summer. I think both met there demise from spun rod or crank bearings, swathers themselves were pretty good machines.

I have one here, Dan. I also might have a few spare parts as I rebuilt it using 2 engines to make one! The weak spot was the bearing in the cooling fan. There was no way to replace it during routine maintenance and when the bearing seized while operating, the entire fan and housing self destructed. So once fan and shroud replacement parts were no longer available from Case, it usually meant a scrapped engine. I think it was designated a 125A.

I wonder if the swather you have pictured is the same as the one my grandfather had in this picture? He was a case man, it is the only picture i have of the swather.
Looking at the great pic, it looks to be like a VH4D Wisconsin, but I could be wrong.

Bradley, very good information as it is a interesting engine. I wonder if the engine was on the first "A" combines? Nice to hear from you Bradley.

I have often wondered that myself, a lot of the competition was using watercooled.
