How often do you buy a whole tractor just to get a part?

I finally got sick of screwing around looking for a set of tires so I stumbled across these two C's for two grand ($1000 each?) The rims and tires are great and after spending the weekend doing battle with some crappy rims and tires they looked REALLY REALLY good. Allis bump style rims are kind of salty, I know 4 loops work......but. The narrow front is a 43 and the mag isn't sparking. The wide front is a 46 has a distributor and coil and supposedly will pull start. Neither has a battery.

Are some Allis rims galvanized and some painted?

I was trying to be helpful in your possible new Allis hobby. At 88 I am just a wish I could still.
Hobbies were used to think about something besides my 24 hour a day injection molding plant and my mold building shop. At the time I shared pictures of Allis Chalmers B and C tractors that were being worked on by others in real time. Now I just have old pictures to share.

I bought a G from an older guy back in the 90s. It was a good solid runner, Mott mower on it with a snow blower, chains, plow and cultivator. It came with another whole tractor he got for parts. Non running '48 and real bad tires. I snapped an axle once and it was nice to have the parts on hand.

Bought an M at auction it ran rough . Uncrossed the plug wires, took the new tires and wheel weights off. Put on a set of worn tires sold the weights added a grand to the auction price. Put the new tires on a Super M and added anouther grand to the Super and sold it.

I have 4 1940 Cs that I got each cheap as in around $250 each. I did get 2 of them running and the other 2 I parted out or used to get the other 2 to run. That step on the one is nice to have an even nicer for older people like my self that have problems getting on some tractors

I agree on your pricing. My first C was $2000 that was deliverd in working condition with an L306 mower deck-----that was almost 30 years ago. Since then I've purchased C's for $300, $150 and $250. For the most part these tractors are approx. the value of the tires/rims.

My original C is getting really tired, should have plenty of parts for a decent tractor now. My winter indoor project.
