Electric Power. Steering

Started to instal electric power on my Oliver super88. Removed hood, side panels and fuel tank. Lower shaft came out of the U joint OK, shaft in top U joint is givng me fits, not much room to be able to hit it with a hammer. Soaked it good with Deep Creep, letting it soak now, probably gonna need to heat the joint to get it out but afraid of cooking the 70+ year old grease out of the U joint. Time will tell. Probably be a couple of days before I get back to it. I'll try to post pictures as I go along. CHRIS

Yes, but not enough room to get it in there. It's a diesel, foot starter converted to alternator so those crappy wires are for the generator that's gone, the red one is from the alternator. Might have to move it.

Not sure if this will help, but here goes. Years ago I had a similar situation on an old Rover. I had 2 pieces of flat steel that were fork shaped. I put them between the yoke and the upper fixture, put a pivot between them, then used a bolt/nut to pull the top together and lever the joint off. If you want more detail, send a DM.

Could you use a large "pickle fork" tie rod end tool. Horror Freight sells a two piece set pretty cheap.

Will a U Joint separator not fit in there?

Are you trying to remove the yoke instead of the U joint.

I need the shaft out of the u joint, leave the u joint intact.
