Cotter pin on bottom of 2010

Hello all, There is a cotter pin hanging down from the bottom of my 2010. There is oil leaking out of that hole. What is the purpose of that cotter pin and the hole?

Just what you said, to let the oil out of the clutch housing so it doesn't mess up the clutch. But you have to look close and see if it is engine oil or transmission oil.

The pin is loose so rattling around keep the hole open for oil or condensation.

Thanks for the reply. To be clear, this is located directly below the operator. That seems a little far back to the be the drainage for the clutch area. Are we speaking about the same hole?

I believe that "jiggle" pin is in the bottom of the PTO clutch housing. It would let oil that leaked into that compartment out before it got on the clutch discs. The pin should be loose in the hole and just jiggles around as the tractor is moving/running to keep the hole open, the same idea as the one under the engine clutch housing.

Jim; you are correct, its the PTO clutch compartment, it is dry. Drilled hole with cotter-pin is to drain leaking oil that may leak into that compartment. So! you have a oil leak coming into the PTO compartment from the transmission housing or the back PTO gear housing..

I had one of those get plugged on my White 2-135. Had a serious problem with the clutch slipping. I started wondering if there was one in the bottom of the bell housing. I stopped the tractor and looked underneath. Sure enough. I spun it and oil started running out in a stream. Within two rounds it had drained out, the oil slung and burned off the clutch and no problem since. That was two years ago. Way easier fix than a clutch job.

The loose cotter pin also blocks wasps and mud daubers from crawling in and building a nest inside the clutch housing.

That jiggler cotter key is a great example of the mfgr. anticipating future possible problems.
