My eco jet is plugged? Compared to my broken original it doesn't match should I drill it out with correct drill bit

I've bought are .046".
If too big, engine leans out, and if too small, runs richer than desired. If 100% plugged it would run super rich.(soldered one closed and ran it)
It lives down here

i just got back to working on the 8n after a few months of putting it off. Took everything off to check and clean.

I can’t remember off the top of my head it’s a 3/64 bit right? To get are 046? It’s close enough I think right not the exact.

I did put it back on to try and crank it. It let off the biggest backfire out the exhaust and carb

3/64 is .0469, so yes.
#56 drill is .046 too
Ive had a couple that have .052 jet that run just fine.
Haven't had a wrong size economizer jet be the cause backfire...

Will do I will get back on it and will check it. Couldn’t get it to run just serval backfires out carb and exhaust. Thinking it’s another timing issue because I checked the points and I adjusted them back to original setting .015

Agree check the timing. Remember the cam slots are offset, so the distributor shaft offset needs to line up one way only, if not, its 180° out...

If you try to force it when its 180 off you will do very serious damage to the distributor.

I’ve heard that before. I’ve took mine off and it’s been 180 off before and it went into the slot just fine and I’ve taken back off and rotated it 180 and went back in fine. I worry about that too I try to mark mine when off
