Massey No.9 Baler help

I’ve got a Massey No.9 baler that I have problems with it tying occasionally. Also have issues with the twine getting caught up on the billhooks. It’s a pretty good baler other than that. I only farm about 10-15 acres of hay so don’t really want to upgrade if I can get these issues resolved. Any help on finding parts or what needs replaced ? I have the manual but figured I’d ask opinions first before I read through it

My experience with a #3 was keeping everything clean with a leaf blower and slick with WD 40. I remember having twine get caught in the knotter on occasion. Its been a while but i believe a 3 and 12 had knotters different than the 124 I seldom use now. Hope that helps.

The 124 knotter is NOTHING like the 3/9/10/12 balers had. The 124 used spring loaded bill hooks that would need the dust cleaned out when they got sticky. As the bale moved back it pulled the knot off the bill hook, NO stripper arm needed. After using a 124 awhile you would want to throw rocks at anything else.

So if I can find a 124 I should consider it ? Thinking about selling mine since there isn’t many around my area that knows much about them

If your 9 isn't in too bad of shape I wouldn't give up before reading the manual several times. I started with a tired #3. Then another #3 and a12. Pull the twine back into the chute and hold it there with a bar or 2x4, trip the knotter and have someone roll the flywheel slowly while you watch the knotter action. Probably the biggest problem I had with them was with the twine fingers either not picking the twine off the needles correctly or the bearings they rotate on being sticky. Be nice if Daniel W would see this and chime in.
