How to remove wheel from Sunflower 9312 drill

Location
SW Indiana
I have a Sunflower drill model 9312-10. An end wheel tire is leaking. Looks as though there is not enough clearance to remove it toward the inside. Perhaps enough room could be created by moving the axle stub outward first. Is that do-able?

What is a good way to remove the wheel?

Thanks in advance. Pictures attached.

Wheels up, so that I can access the wheel nuts - one at a time (TDC). If I put the wheels down, the opener units prevent me from accessing the wheel nuts. I think it would still have clearance issues with the mount of the opener unit.

Thanks for the reply, Joey.

Can you chain up a couple openers to get the clearance you need?

Im just going off your pictures btw Not personal experience with that unit

If you take that bolt out of the stub axle, will the axle slide deeper into the socket to give you enough clearance to get the wheel off? Also deflate the tire. It will shrink a little and be a bit more flexible.

That's what I'm thinking, Hemmjo. It looks like that should move the wheel out enough. Deflating the tire is a good idea, too.

On a chisel plow I had a similar stub shaft that needed replacing.

Had 2 fellas heating it while a 3rd beat on it, after trying other things first.

That failed too.

Had a Mobil blacksmith fella come out, he welded a cap on the back side with a large nut on it and large gr 8 bolt and pressed the stub out, with his large torch heating the pipe red. It did not come out easy but he got it. Took him, his helper, and me and a fair amount of hard wrenching.

So, yes that could work, but you could be in for a struggle.

Usually moving it in the up or down position gives enough clearance, I understand it might not. I might remove a row up it before messing with that stub axle very much, but yours might go easy…

The axle stub moved easily. Not enough.
I deflated the tire. Better, but still not enough.

Ended up disconnecting the control arm. Fairly easy to do

after I figured out the weight balance. Able to move the tire rearward, away from the row opener mounting at the frame.

Thanks for your ideas.

Thanks for the update. Seems like, if they are going to make the tire/wheel that difficult to remove, they should use "no flat" tires!!!
