My sediment bowls always leak at the valve

After a sediment bowl search here and tons of leaks at the cork gasket, leaks at the tank threads----these are problems I rarely have.

Almost ALL my sediment bowls leak at the valve/packing nut area. What's your go to solution?

I've got a couple tractors that I don't really plan on keeping and would like to repair the leaks. I rarely ever have a problem with cork/bowl seal always the valve.

On the tractors I keep and use they get a good ball valve and in-line fuel filter.

Welcome to YT. A lot of the old sediment bowls are designed to shut off with the valve screwed all the way out and snugged. They will leak if left part way open. If it leaks closed tighten or repack it. Filters on down draft carbs can restrict flow unless it’s designed for down draft. If it’s an o ring it’s new and needs a new o ring. If it’s string they have it at hardware store in plumbing supply. I’ve never seen one with an o ring seal.

My 51 A sits for long stretches with the valve closed. The packing dries out and the needle will turn easily. It will leak some till it gets wet again. Tightening the nut when it's dry makes it too tight after it swells.
