Hopefully easy restart fix

RedMF40

Not from Iceland!
The tractor I rely on is my MF 40. Starts right up when I turn the key cold. Runs well, maybe an occasional miss. After I've worked it and it's warmed up, I go to restart and have to crank, crank, crank repeatedly. Finally grumbles to life and I don't know what to troubleshoot since it normally starts and runs fine. Thanks for any thoughts. Gerrit

Is there a chance that the carb needle and seat are leaking a little and making it flood when it is turned off hot? If it sits long enough to cool off the gas could evaporate making it start easy when cold. Turning off the gas valve should keep it from flooding. If you already do that then ignore my post!

Sounds familiar, I put a shut off (1/8" nptm x 1/8" nptf ball valve) on all my gas tractors. Sediment bowl valves have an O ring that wears and eventually starts leaking.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll shut off the fuel next time I run it. It’s parked over at a neighbor’s where I’m cutting some firewood and it’s wet from recent rains now so it’ll be a while before I get back to it.

I had a MF 30 with the Continental engine.
Had a leak around the intake manifold.
Had to have it resurfaced.
Could be opening up a bit when it gets hot.
Spray ether a bit in the carb when it is hot and see if it starts better.
