Need Ideas For Kids Parade Float on 28 ft Gooseneck

I need a pre-K homecoming parade float idea. It will be on a gooseneck trailer pulled by a truck. We will have hay bales for kids to sit on. The kids will wear matching T-shirts and Lion cub headbands. The colors are purple and gold. The mascot is a lion and they are lion cubshe . The theme is purple and gold. We need the decoration to be fun and will go “all out”, but need to keep costs down where we can as building floats can get expensive.

I have a generator for any power needed. Going to try to use used wood for a short rail down the sides and put plywood over n the upper deck and across the ramps

My two cents…

Keep it about the kids. Safety first of course. Have them draw some pictures or make some kind of craft project you can use to decorate the float. Have the kids blow bubbles or spin pinwheels or wave streamers or squirt water guns. Spend your bucks on making it fun for the kids instead of looking good for adults.

I can't emphasize safety enough. In 2022, prior to the Independence Day parade in Mandan ND, a 6 year old girl from California fell off of a float and was run over and killed. Can never be too careful, especially where young kids and unpredictable trailer movements are concerned.

Know a guy that got to doing a pumpkin patch every year for school kids. After a couple years it was going well. He used an old cotton wagon with high sides to transport the students to and from field. Last year he did it, a cross brace broke on top of trailer and struck a teacher on her head. Ambulance called. Hospital stay followed. That is when he discovered his farm insurance did not cover what he was doing. Insurance did pay and teacher was ok. But he never did tours again. Said he was lucky there was no law suit and insurance told him they would cover the medical bills for that time only. And they would not renew policy if he decided to continue the tours. Saying this to say in this day and time be very very very sure your insurance is good.

Let the kids design it. After all it's their float.

You just worry about the bucket full of Tootsie Rolls that they get to throw out along the route.

Cheap trick. Hit the hay bales with a light pass of gold spray paint on the ends that face out. Looks great from the curb and costs you three cans at the dollar store.
I would, but we will have around 20-24 bales and they are letting us borrow them from the Co-op.
