Ford 6600 diesel runs rough

New injection pump, injectors, fuel filter. Cylinder pressures 320 340 340 340. Fairly hard starting. Tractor cranks and seems to run normally at first. As it approaches operating temperature more and more blue smoke appears. The tractor cuts out sputters and spits will not accelerate to full RPM at full operating temperature . Idle seems normal except by this time there’s a lot of blue smoke. A couple months ago when we were using the tractor, the oil level would rise on the dipstick. Is it possible that so much oil is entering the cylinder that it is affecting combustion? Will a head job solve this problem?

What year model is your 6600, during it’s production run the 6600 model used 2 different injection pumps, one pump had 2 different fuel settings and there were at least 3 different injector tips
Although compression is down about 100 lbs mine checked last year at 350 lbs on all cylinders, it starts find and runs good, it does haze more but I’m believe when I retipped the injectors I was sent the wrong tips
How long has it been since the pump and injectors were replaced or rebuilt, did it haze and run bad as soon as the work was done or has in progressed
Incorrect pump timing can cause all of the symptoms you have mentioned
A head job won’t likely help but it wouldn’t hurt the check the valve adjustment if it hasn’t been done in a while

I'm guessing you have a rotary injection pump if the oil level is rising. Pump needs to come off to replace the driveshaft seal. At the same time I'd have a pump shop check cranking delivery. This is the most likely cause of your hard starting. Those rotary pumps never were great starters. Compression numbers look just fine to me.

better do the pump and injector s before you wash out the engine
The oil level was rising earlier when the tractor was running and we were using it and it had the old injection pump. I don’t know if the oil level is still rising now with the new injection pump because it hasn’t been run enough. It runs normally when cold, as it gets up to operating temperature there’s more blue smoke, and it will not accelerate past idle, it spits and sputters. Since the cylinder pressures are within range, the oil must be coming from the top from the valve guides to make the blue smoke. It seems to me.

What injection pump do you have, inline or rotary? If you're not sure, post a pic. Any oil leaking past valve guides has nothing to do with the spitting and sputtering.

It’s rotary. The model number did not match exactly but it was listed as a replacement for my model number.

Has it been this way since the new pump was installed or has it progressed to this condition
Is the replacement inj pump one of the cheap off shore units or a reman
It’s starting to sound like the replacement inj pump is defective
With the off shore stuff and generic listings I see these days it’s best to have the original pump rebuilt if possible

It’s been this way since the new pump was installed, but the new pump is actually acting just like the old pump. Definitely offshore Romania I think.

Doing the same thing with both pumps sounds like it’s either a fuel flow issue or something not related to the fuel system
Remove the 5/16 bleeder screw and crank the engine over, fuel should squirt 2-3 ft of t of the hole, if not there’s blockage somewhere, tank screen, fuel filter
If fuel squirts out 2-3 ft I’d pull the valve cover and check valve adjustment,
