What do you think about this trailer, pros/cons

I have been emailing trailer outfits, I emailed Kaufman about the weight of this trailer and confirm the price that's when they told me they did not have dealers they sale factory direct.

I was looking at one like this I have used a buds to haul a tractor. What changed my mind is I read they don't work well hauling a diesel pickup. The pick up is nose heavy and will not tilt when loaded. One guy told me he could get it build with power tilt.

Equipment Tilt

Have a 20 foot Kaufman that I bought used from an individual it has a 16 foot tilt with four foot bed in front. I've overloaded it a number of times and it never flinched. I can't say anything bad about it, one of my better buys.

The load carrying part of that trailer ends at the tailights. The rear section is just a pair of fixed ramps, not meant to carry a load that far behind the axles. As with any trailer, you have to pick what you do most of the time, and go with that. You can create what-if scenarios all day long.No one small trailer will do everything you can dream up.Pick and buy according to whatever you do the most.

The problem I have with tilt trailers is they seem to have a lot of deck you only use for the loading, and can't use it for hauling. I like to have my overhang on the front so I can move the load around for distribution. Just my thoughts. I do like the hydraulic tilts.

The opening in the middle at the back is for the ID lights, they need a place si they dont get busted and that point is so narrow they wouldnt last there.

Company I drive for part time has one. We use it to haul fork lifts and skid loaders. Release the lock and walk back the trailer. Your weight will push in down. Load and the bed goes down slowly. On our's there's a small bleed/valve you can adjust for your drop rate. I would buy one.

Not being very familiar with trailers or tilt trailers at all, what is the point of the hole in back where the ‘ramps’ are?

I would think that is a negative if you have tricycle tractors or want to haul a narrow 4 wheeler or lawn mowers or the like?

(I realize it’s a big trailer to haul a lawn mower, but I tend to use what is hooked up or available, not always wait for the perfect tool for the job.)

Perhaps the sq hole is to reduce weight to make the trailer tilt better when loaded???

So with a tilt bed trailer what do you do when you want to haul more than one thing or some smaller parts? Seems like it wouldn't work so good then from the ones I have seen come in the yard. Steel plate deck would be good for endurance but not so good when it is wet to load anything.

Loved the big Tex we had at work that was gravity. If you had something that was front heavy you turn it around anyway with the light pickups we pulled with it will over center even if you put it on wrong once you drive towards the back.

Have an electric tilt one and have not been impressed. It’s ok if you don’t have coworkers or they will be constantly dead. Same with electric dump trailer. Borrowed one at work 2 loads in to a 10 load run and it’s bogging down.

Nope dump truck and manual tilt trailer I can jump those and keep going

The square hole is a recessed light bracket. When the trailer is loaded, you need 3 amber lights in the center of trailer. Can't put them anywhere so they recessed them.

my uncle has a manual tilt with dampener, I’ve used it a few times and the manual tilt can get you in a jam. I’ve had to use a high lift jack to make it tilt before. The trailer is ok, where it really shines is moving a car or something with low ground clearance.

14k lbs and about 18’ is the limit on bumper pulls for me. Once you get past that a gooseneck handles so much better. Also more forgiving with tongue load.

Yes winch mount mandatory. I also asked about rear D-rings as I don't see them on the rear. The trailer weighs in at 3600lbs.
I just welded a receiver to the front of my trailer. My winch is mounted on a plate that attaches to the receiver. That way I can take it off and store out of the weather when not needed.

I did that on a trailer I never took it off so on the next one bolted it down and laid a SS grill top on it.

P J or Big Tex builds great trailers. You want regret getting goose neck and hydraulic electric jacks and ramps. Don’t know how old you are but it’s worth it.

Hole will not be necessary when the bed is flat for travel, lights would be in view. Surely the mfgr. makes a plate to cover the hole when loading/unloading, would be dumb not to make a cover plate.

I watched a video on youtube where a guy mounted a winch to this trailer he had counter balance issues. I could add rear weight that's not an issue. I sure thought it was power tilt : (. I got a pix of how the factory installs a winch plate I do not like giving up 2ft of deck on this trailer for a winch. When I load my Kubota with loader I need all the front deck to balance the load nice. I guess there is no perfict trailer. I'm also looking at this one and a pix of winch mount on the Kauffman.

I like that it's painted, and not powder coated!

Are the fenders easily removable? I've popped off the similar looking fenders on my PJ to get wide stuff loaded.

I do like that the fender brackets do look to incorporate a step to get up on the trailer.

Interesting that it's rated at 15k, with twin 7k axles. Does the bonus rating include tongue weight?

Not a fan of tongue jacks that are right up front. Do you have clearance to open your tailgate without hitting the jack top?

Keep us posted on what you decide. I'd also like to find a better solution than heavy steel ramps!
