hello, Deere friends,, I have gone thru this carb,, butt still having a problem,, sometimes it will start & run for a short time and shut down like it runs out of gas,, carb bowl is full,, it has the diaphragm shut off on the sediment bowl,, when it stops I can loosen the gas line at the carb and crank the engine only a couple strokes and the oil pressure comes up and the gas flows freely at the carb. I crank with choke and the spark plugs remain dry,, sometimes when I crank it fires up,, butt shuts down after a minute or so.. any ideas ??

The tractor starts and runs but then shuts down. When it does this, do you loose spark. Check and see? As far as fuel, check the manifold for crack or gasket leak? Not pulling in your fuel mixture?

My gas 4020 had the same symptoms. It would start and run but when it needed to make power it would quit. I changed the fuel pump and the fuel filters and checked the needle and seat for obstructions no help. I removed it and got out the JD service manual. It turned out the float had got bent out of adjustment. Set it to factory specs and it was ok. How did that float get bent inside the carb? It had run fine for ten years.

hello,, I worked on this today,, first thing it had No spark,, sooo I had already put new points in and the condenser looked new,, so I put a new condenser in and so far it runs,, recheck tomorrow,, the old symptoms was,, it would start today,, but not start tomorrow,, and sometimes it would run for a minute & die like it was out of gas,,then it would NOT restart,, other times it would run longer then fizzle out.. anyway it is starting now the first revolution,, Thanks guys!! also the belt pulley wants to keep running,, and when you pull back on the clutch handle it runs even faster,, what is the fix for this problem??

No spark? If that is still a problem, try an old condenser; where finding that new condensers can be bad right out of the box. If you have kept some old condensers, give one a try? Your problem with the ground clutch is the pulley brake in front of the pulley, it needs adjusting. With the tractor running, clutch lever disengaged, adjust the pulley brake tighter until the pulley stops turning. Give it a try. If good, your done; if not, tighten s little more? I should have said for you to check the pulley brake lining? Is it good? You may need a new pulley brake lining, JD part No- AB4748R? Check it out.

hello,, something must be out of adjustment,, the pulley brake is trying to stop the pulley,, BUT pulling harder on the clutch lever only makes the pulley speed up and the engine pulls down..

Your clutch needs some work. I think it is.going over center and engaging. One of the real 2 cylinder guys on this site can provide guidance.
