Oil Out Of Starter

I hav an old forklift with a 300 industrial straight 6. I have oil leaking out of my starter, several drips a minute. I still have oil on my dip stick so I don’t know where it’s coming from. It might be the rear main seal. What say you?

Oil coming out around the starter means that the bottom of the bell housing is full of oil. It could be engine oil or it could be transmission fluid. If it has a hydraulic pump driven off of anything near the the rear of the engine it could be hydraulic fluid.

That's only if it has a Ford Tractor style bell housing. A 300 industrial straight 6 was never mounted in a tractor as far as I know.
You are right. That engine in the Ford pickups had a sheet metal inspection cover on the bottom of the bell housing, if my memory is right this time.
