Hoping someone can help me. This is my first engine rebuild so I'm new to this but I know how to turn wrenches so not a total dummy. I've been working on this 420T for several years. Got the engine back from machine shop last year. 6 dollar a gallon diesel has motivated me to get it done already. Unfortunately the 'ol memory ain't what she used to be and I can't remember if it was like this when I took it apart. The rockers are not centered on the valves. I cannot find anything in my manuals that talks about tappet alignment or shimming but this just doesn't look right. I do remember that the center spring was broken and I replaced it but I didn't change the orientation and installed both tappets as they were. The rocker stud with the oil inlet cut out is installed to the rear of the engine so my rockershaft studs are oriented as the manual says. This just doesn't look right to me and looks as though it would cause wear to my valve seats. Not to mention this makes setting the valve lash a bit difficult. Did the previous owner install these wrong? Any ideas? Are my rocker arms oriented in the wrong order or am I overthinking this? Can't find a picture anywhere that shows correct orientation but they appear to be the part number meaning the number 1 are the same and number 2 are the same as the parts manual indicates.
