If you could show the silage choppers I would appreciate it. Somewhere in that vintage case and IH worked together on one, its the model 300 for case and I think 55 or 550 with ih. I have the case version and I know it was made by ih, but the castings have the case eagle casted in them.

I have a NO 7 flail chopper that is used almost daily may thru october each year.. I have owned it for 7-8 years now and have only replaced drive belt and rebuilt blower housing band, very good flail chopper. Also lined auger trouph with poly.

Those choppers were 100 percent IH designed and built. The 50 came first in two row machines and I have the one here that dad bought new in 1964. Times were changing in the farm machinery industry and small volume sellers could no longer sell an inhouse product at a competitive price so the smaller companies looked outside to find equipment that could be sold competitively and leave a profit. Part of Case's problem was they got fixated on the profit that came with industrial equipment and associated components such as engines that were used in farm tractors. At the same time they were letting R & D go on farm implements thus falling behind the competition. Cylinder type forage harvesters were becoming big while sales volume for flywheel cut machines such as what Case built were rapidly falling out of favor. The hard recession that came during the late 1970's and early 1980's made Case, AC, White, and Ford regret not maintaining an inhouse line of implements even if it meant a joint venture with a competitor.

Jon,
Any chance you could post pictures of your machine ? Would especially like to see where Case eagle
is in casting. Thanks

Model 50 IH was the model for a 300 Case machine.
