I’m working on a 650 I bought a while back knowing it had head issues with compression getting into the radiator. Head was redone and was not cracked. Head gasket was blown out around all 4 sleeves. The tops of the sleeves are pitted pretty bad. Are they usable or will they not seal with the head? What caused the pitting? Running it too long with bad head gasket?

I would not reuse that sleeve. It looks like it has had both water and heat damage as well as some scoring. For me, it would be a bad risk to use it again.

I kinda figured that. That was the worst one but the other 3 are also having same issue so I guess I will suck it up and pull them all. Thank you. Definitely not worth the risk

On those old engines head cracking was only one issue , they were also prone to blocks cracking in the bores . Now i have never been into the D 350's as we never had any of them around this area in a ag tractor . Only place you would find them was in the T D 9 crawlers and again not many of them . Company i worked for way back had a total of 8 , 4 dozers and 4 T D 9 's with a crane boom mounted dead center that we used on water and sewer line work and as a mobile crane for infield service work on the big tonka toys . Since we did not use them much i don't remember a time when we had any of them apart.
