4020 Won't go into park

I ran into an issue today with my 4020 (SN:215000). When I went to put it in park, there was no resistance on the gear shifter and I could move the shifter to "Park", but the tractor was not in park and started to drift. I can still drive the tractor and it will go into 1st, 3rd, and reverse, and operate normally. I was taking it back to the barn when I noticed that if I put the tractor in 5th or 7th gear, it would only travel like it was in 3rd gear. I am a novice at repairing the tractor so I would appreciate any insight that you can offer.
If you need any more information, please let me know.

Thank you,

Bob

Most likely a linkage issue. Pull off the cowl around the shift console and inspect the shifter on the right side. The bottom portion is partly obscured by the RH battery so look behind the battery or remove it to inspect. I had a cotter pin wear to the point of allowing a clevis pin to slide out on the 4010 one time many years ago. Luckily, I did not lose the clevis pin so I replaced the cotter pin.

First thing to check is slack between the 2 drums located in dash. Install shims to remove any slack between drums. Also check condition, of the latch & be certain it's operating as designed holding drums in correct location while shifting trans.

I got a chance to look at the tractor and I can see that the gear shifter shaft arm is gone. I tried to find the missing piece where I was working, but I couldn't find it. I will have to order a new one. I am not sure which part number I need to order. It looks like there are two gear shifter shaft arms listed. Can you tell me which one I need to order?

Thank you for the help,

Bob

Thank you for your reply. I contacted John Deere and they told me that I need to order R49207. I'm glad I talked with them because I definitely would have ordered the wrong part. I hope this can help somebody else. I am ordering the part tonight.
