Leak. Is this just an inspection plate? (see pic)

Thanks for the reply, JMOR. You have no idea how much I appreciate your help and expertise on trying to stop this leak. So you mention a relief valve behind the cover. I was looking in sections 4 and 5 of the exploded [u:c129478540]Master Parts Catalog[/u:c129478540] to see if I could...

Leak. Is this just an inspection plate? (see pic)

Hi everyone, I need some advice on a leak I'm having trouble with. What is this?...is it just an inspection plate? (see pic). It looks like it has a gasket so I wondered if there was a chamber behind one side of this plate that would dump the hydraulic fluid if I took it off. I...

Need advice on FRONT tires for a 1956 Ford 860

Thanks Dean. I was gong to post another topic about front wheel weights, but since you mentioned it..... From the owner's manual: "Wheel Weights--inside mounted, Two per wheel -- 50 lbs. each. Total -- 200 lbs." What do these look like on and off the tractor? Can somebody please post...

Need advice on FRONT tires for a 1956 Ford 860

Well, I'm glad to hear from someone in addition to Dean that 6.50x16 will work (barely). I don't want to reverse the rims, so the 7.50x16 are now out of consideration (once again, the knowledge and experience of this forums participants is extremely helpful). So it's between the 6.00 and the...

Need advice on FRONT tires for a 1956 Ford 860

Hey Tim, now that's a nice looking 8N, like a show tractor. I can't believe you work it. Thankd for the tire pics, too. I never knew that the original tires on an 8N were the Guide Grip style, and they look good. As far as tire filler, I was going to ask about tire filler options on this...

Need advice on FRONT tires for a 1956 Ford 860

Thanks History Buff. I did find where 7.5 x 16 tires are 30.8 tall. That would mean that a 7.5-16 tire would be 2.7" taller than what I have now. That would mean it would raise the front end of the tractor half of that, or almost an inch and a half.

Need advice on FRONT tires for a 1956 Ford 860

6.50-16 would certainly be the compromise. Many of these tires now are imported and it's hard to find the overall diameter and width specs. I am trying to wrap my head around how going to a larger width and diameter tire would knock my steering out of whack. I know there's not a lot of...

Need advice on FRONT tires for a 1956 Ford 860

I tried to edit the post but got a message that said: "Post editing temporarily disabled, contact us for deletion if removal is urgent." I wanted to mention that I would consider, and maybe prefer a turf type tire instead of the 3-rib tire. I am on county roads some, and pastures. I also...

Need advice on FRONT tires for a 1956 Ford 860

Hey everybody, I'm keep getting a flat tire (brush hogging briers) and it is always on the right front. Fronts are 5.50 x 16, 3-rib, and they are very worn. So, looking at new tires, and need help with what works good and what to avoid. No, I don't have a front-end loader. I would like...

Questions about converting to a key start instead of button

Wow, I'm glad I asked before I just went and did it. Not sure what would have happened; I suppose I could have burned something up. Thanks for the knowledge.

Questions about converting to a key start instead of button

It appears my push-button switch on my 1955 Ford 860 is not making a good ground, and I'm avoiding the task of taking the top of the transmission to replace it. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the ignition switch that the Master Parts Catalog shows: 8N-3679-C Lock...

Thanks for the post. Does the horizontal system cover up any of the oil pan screws?

Can anyone identify this tractor seat pan?

You guys are good! I googled up the "Massy Harris" and "flip-over" and one came up on ebay. And sure enough, that looks like what I got. Not hardly even a challenge for 'ya. On a side note, I was hoping it would have been for my 1955 Ford 860 tractor. If anyone has one of those and...

Can anyone identify this tractor seat pan?

Thanks for the lead. I'll check out Massey Ferguson flip-over seats and see if it's a match.

Need advice on converting vertical exhaust to horizontal.

I have a few questions about converting the exhaust from vertical to horizontal on my 1955 Ford 860. YT sells a one-piece muffler pipe/tailpipe combo that's 78" long. The original is two pieces, NCA5255B Muffler down-pipe and NCA5263B tailpipe. I'm concerned about any issues fitting the...

Can anyone identify this tractor seat pan?

Can anyone identify the tractor or implement that used this seat pan? There doesn't seem to be any stamping anywhere, but then again, I don't know exactly where to look. It may be covered by surface rust. It appears to be the original paint, so something red...Ford, Massy...

Newbie needs advice on PTO Overrun Clutch problems

I think you're right, JMOR, we pretty much covered it. It's become quite clear that it's not necessary. This forum saved me 80 bucks or so. Thanks to everyone for your input and advice.

Newbie needs advice on PTO Overrun Clutch problems

"..., I see nothing to be gained by using an ORC and doing so will introduce tolerance into the driveline." Okay, you're talking me out of it. So if I disengage the clutch to slow down around corners, for example, the PTO will keep the blades turning @540, and the tractor will have no...

Newbie needs advice on PTO Overrun Clutch problems

Thanks for the your knowledge and input, Dean. With the tractor running and the PTO lever engaged: when I let up on the clutch pedal a short distance, the PTO starts turning. After a considerable bit more pedal travel, the tractor will start moving when in gear. Is this not the proper...
