    The pick method sounds like a good choice and I am familiar with pulling dents with the studs. Haven"t soldered studs in place before but I do have a pull hammer. Good advice. Thanks

    Suggest also checking the points to be sure they are gapped correctly and not burnt. Have you checked to see if you are getting spark to the plugs? I have a 6v system on my IH 140 so my 12v inductive timing light won't work off the 6v battery. I connect the leads to a extra 12v battery and...

    Fixing a dent in gas tank?

    Before I start a lot of sheet metal work, how would I fix a dent in the gas tank on my IH Farmall 140? The dent is on the left side of the tank about half way forward. It is about three inches across and oblong. No gouge just a dent. Any ideas would be helpful!

    Thanks for the replies on my post. I did try the "motor" test. The generator would not run. It appears the brushes are bad among other problems. When I took it by the local dealer in IH parts, he suggested rebuilding it. He tested it as well. It is 46 years old - it doesn't owe me...

    How can I test my 140 generator? It is a 6v. Can I connect it to the battery and make it run like a motor? If it runs is it okay?

    Cleaning and Prep for Engine Paint

    I need some help with how to prep the engine, transmission etc for paint. The tractor was painted about 15 years ago but wasn't prepped well - some of the old paint is peeling in various locations. Sheet metal is no problem but how do I get the engine etc clean and then how do I prep it to paint?
