    Question about NH mower-conditioner HP req.

    Manual on my NH479 says 35 HP or more. As noted in the earlier posts, the D17 should handle it easily. A problem would be if you tried to use a new, 35 HP compact utility tractor as the NH 479 weighs more than 2800 pounds-- not all 35 HP tractors are created equal.

    Rye in hay field question

    One problem that I can see would be getting the hay dry (at least here in Wisconsin). The winter rye would have a much thicker and succulent stem than rye grass.
