    UDLX no cab?

What tractor is this? It looks like a UDLX with no cab?

    GTB Piston Specs (Allowable Wear?)

Charlie's argument seems valid. Why sleeve if oversize pistons are available? Especially if cheaper then sleeving. The jump to aluminum can only help. Even if this is a stock rebuild. Reducing rotating mass is a great way to improve an engines design. Sure, steel pistons worked fine in...

What fails in this shifter? Should it have an external spring on the bracket?

U Special and Z serial numbers

The rad cap is twist on. I'm pretty confident it's a 12 volt machine. It has the same long skinny battery tray that the U Special has.

U Special and Z serial numbers

Here's the Z. The serial number is hard to read - I could have the first few digits wrong. Here's the U Special and the Z before I pulled them out of the shed.

Hey guys, I'm hoping you can help me date a couple of tractors I picked up. One is a U Special #01214543 The other is a Z #09702285 Thanks!

I need the bearings for my kingpins. Are there any kingpin kit that fits?

    U Special

I picked up a U Special this weekend. It has a flat grill - very different then the U's I'm used to. It also has smaller brakes then the bendix style automotive brakes I have on my 1949 UTS. What did I buy? What's special about these tractors?

    UTS Wheel Color

It looks like most UTS wheels have red centers with silver rims. Were the rims painted silver from factory or were they galvanized?

    UTS Hydraulic Pump

Thanks Yonson. I found a Minneapolis tag on my pump (it looks like its a Webster). What's confusing is the pump seems like the right one, but the oil ports on the back don't quite line up with the factory Moline flange.

    UTS Hydraulic Pump

What is the correct pump for my 1949 UTS It has one right now that makes good pressure, but doesn't match up with the 3 bolt flange that bolts to the back. The o-ring doesn't cover the pressure port well and I have a massive leak. does anyone have part numbers for a Eaton/Charlynn or...

U hood side panel wears through on exhaust manifold

What's the trick to keeping the exhaust manifold from wearing through the hood side? Every old U I see has this problem. I don't want to repair and paint my hood just to have it wear through again. Thanks! Chris.

    283 UTS Electronic Ignition

    Cool! I'll check that out.

    283 UTS Electronic Ignition

Dale, Thanks. That's good advice. I'm not even running a generator right now, so my voltage gets really low in between charges. It's amazing how little juice it takes to start and run these tractors. I'd like to go 12 volt, but would really like to keep the stock generator look. Chris.

    283 UTS Electronic Ignition

Is there a kit to eliminate the points on a 1949 U? I've used them on cars, but can't seem to find the right one for this engine. It's still 6volt, if that matters. Thanks!

    Mayday Mayday on the U

John, My U took a long time to get oil to the back set of rockers. I've never built an engine that took so long to prime. 25psi oil pressure seems a little low. I don't know what mine is for sure but I would have thought 40-50psi cold shouldn't hurt. Maybe someone else on the forum can...

Stock Class Pulling with '49 UTS

Charlie, I pulled recently in a 5000lb stock class. Hitch height is limited to 20", mine is a little lower then that. I pulled in first gear, and spun out a lot earlier then most. A UTS with 38" tires won the class. Smoking pretty hard but it pulled really well. Am I wasting my...

    U Stock pulling tire size

I pulled for the first time recently with my '49 UTS. I weighed it in to 5960lbs in the 5-6000lb class. My U has 16.9-30 tires. I had a real hard time getting traction. I had around 5 psi in the tires. Should I be switching to a much skinnier tire, or moving up a class? It had...
