    47 2n Pto

I agree with both answers to a point. Try to work it out but do not use too much pulling pressure. I would not want to break a chunk off the alum. hydraulic pump houseing or tear up the internals. At some point, just before doing damage, give up and cut it.

8N Hydaulic Arms Lock Up Problem Solved

My 52 8N haudraulics locked up at the highest level possible with a 5ft. 3 pt. tiller hanging on a cherry picker waiting to be lowered into a pickup. I thanked the 8N grimlins for yet "another chance to improve my knowlede level on the 8N". I went to the book (as I always do on a new problem)...

    Ultimate tractor scrap yard?

I am a very lucky man, after 40 years she still believes the guns and tractors are "investments". I wonder if the scrap yard have a tourist trap shop where I can buy her some 8N earrings.

    Ultimate tractor scrap yard?

On c-list, a guy in Mayetta, KS is claiming in his scrap yard he is parting out approx. 1600 tractors from 1930 thru the 1970s . His phone is 785-966-2739. Anyone else know of a bigger one? I may have to take the wife up to Kansas for her anniversary.

    Battery problem

Fyi, you are correct, alternators have diodes to convert ac to dc and to allow electrons to flow in one direction, if a diode fails, the battery can drain back through the diode through the alternator.

    ford 8n clutch

Sounds like a typical stuck clutch. Get out in the open and use the heck out of her, let her slip a bit to clean up the pressure plate. No other way I know to clean it except splitting the tractor. If you are not going to use the tractor for awhile, wire the clutch down to keep it from...

    8N won't stay running

Forgot to mention, spark plug and coil wires like to fail when it gets cold.

    8N won't stay running

If you have not done anything different since it last ran properly, I would suspect a weak spark, a intake manifold leak, bad gas, carb problem, or weak compression. I would look for problems in that order.

    8N Ammeter High Reading

Sounds like the alt. is doing its job, charge your battery and check it. Weak batteries tend to hold in there until the weather changes from hot to cold and vice versa. After charging and it is hooked to the tractor, with the key off, have some one crank it while you measure the voltage across...

    Revisit Bearing Retaine

My brother paid $2 for a marriage license in 1972. He paid over $200,000 for a divorce in 2001. He said it was worth it. I guess you get what you pay for.

Mistakenly identified a dowel for a broken bolt?

Get a strong light, a magnifying glass and inspect the hole, blow air into it to see if you cut into the water or oil ducts. If you think it is important or if you want to get it back to as close as original as possible, tap and install a threaded bolt and cut it off to length. I know this...

    hyd fill point

There are 3 drains, tranny, hydraulic sump and differential. It will take less than 5 gallons due to sludge build up in the system. It is very much worthwile to remove the bolt as recommended and go very slow to allow the oil to spill over to all three chambers.

Jubilee - Get ur done. - NOT (with pics)

I am a bit confused (again) on the power steering. How does it sense which side of the cyclinder to apply oil pressure to? The left steering arm appears to connect directly to the cyclinder. I was expecting the steering arm to connect to a servo valve to direct the flow of hydraulic oil. Is...

how to fix weak spark in 9n?

I thought of something else. You mentioned you replaced the manifold gaskets. You may have an air leak. Use a propane torch, unlit. let some propane flow around the gaskets while some one cranks the engine, if there is a leak, it may fire when the propane is sucked in or if it runs, it will...

how to fix weak spark in 9n?

Just reread your post. I am thinking you not only have a weak spark, but may also have a carb. venting problem or even a primary jet getting blocked in the carb. I say that because you had it running good by choking it. That is an indication of having to create a lot of vacume to get gas to...

how to fix weak spark in 9n?

Whoa! Lets go back the "cast aluminium dash". That is your problem. Take it off and ship it to me. Just kidding, you have an extremely rare item in the alum. dash and that makes the tractor worth messing with. I am just guessing but I think an alum. dash would make the tractor a real prize...

    Tractor serial numbers

For a simple answer: The number on the engine is the tractor's serial number. For more details on Fords go to: http://www.oldfordtractors.com/index.html

Very nice. Perhaps put her up on blocks to keep the tires off the ground / cement and wire the clutch down to keep it from sticking. Can you tell us more about the power steering? What year and the name of the maker? Was there any modifications to the tin to accept the power steering?
