    starving for gasoline

And the winner of the mystery solving is: Plugs. I changed out the #2 plug and that smoothed it out and it pulls steady on the dyno. Like you said, a lot of farting around for a spark plug. But I got a fuel pump installed and I don't have to worry about the empty carb bowl.

    starving for gasoline

I got the in line booster pump installed in the gas line, and it didn't do much if any good. So I checked the distributer and it was looking worn out. So I next held the wires away from the plugs and watched the spark and noted the missing spark when the motor missed a few beats but only on the...

    starving for gasoline

I bought an inline pump and am in the process of installing it. I bought spark plugs also. And a sack of rubber bands to hold my fingers crossed till I try these suggestions. I'll post the results.

    starving for gasoline

The carb was rebuilt by a reputable rebuilder and worked perfect on my other D.....won me lots of ribbons.....with not a problem. My other D has the stock camshaft but it is advanced one tooth to get the intake valve closed quicker....no chance of the piston pushing any compression back up the...

    starving for gasoline

The tractor has a sediment bowl. I took it off and drilled out the passages a little bit. I don't use an inline filter. I pull the engine down to 900 RPM (on the dyno), throttle full open and it just starts to cycle between missing and running okay. It will cycle between missing and running at...

    starving for gasoline

Thanks, I cleaned the tank and it'll flow a reasonable stream out the bottom of the bowl when the tractor is off. That makes me think the tank and lines are okay. What low pressure pump would you recommend? I'm thinking that will be the best solution.

    starving for gasoline

My JD D is missing at full load, I think the engine is starving for fuel. I have all the passages clean and it flows a decent amount of fuel out the bottom of the bowl without it running. With the tractor running at idle it will run some fuel out of the bottom however at full load I can open the...

    John Deere R Weight

Here's a guy pulling his JD R near Westcliffe CO (almost 7900 feet elevation) with good power and weighing 7675. It has electric start. JD R pulling at 7675

    Re: JD D

The JD D's are a weird little tractor. They are so short, very few of them have turning brakes, there is almost no place to hang weights, it's difficult to put on a advantageous hitch, they are too heavy for the power they have and the list goes on. Dang, I love my D's. I stretched out my...

    47 A JD

I've been having a lot of fun with my '39 JD D. I haven't spent much money on it but I do spend a lot of time working on it. It wins around here in CO. At the Victor CO pull I pulled 6 times (3 times in percentage classes and 3 times in distance classes) and won 6 first places. I can get my...

    I finally saw it.

Here in CO on Sat and Sun the same thing happened. We pull percentage and this JD B had the highest percentage of the two day pull. Slow and steady, he hit the groove and kept pulling. A great old guy he is too. And he does life slow and easy too----it was his and his wife's 60th wedding...

    crank pics

How did you make the flat cuts around the rod journal? You made them before you mounted it in the lathe I'm assuming.

off topic: what do you all do

I play the banjo for a local dancer(click below) and got hooked on old JD's my uncle farmed with. Always loved the sound of the 2 big cylinders (Harleys too) lugging like they know what they"re doing. Before the dancer gig, I was a banjo builder, cowboy, ranch manager, miner, blaster (still am)...

John Deere D connecting rod length?

No, the crankpin diameter is 3.4995 (the G is 3.3745). Sorry. The 2.999 diameter is the crank journal diameter and the same as the G.

John Deere D connecting rod length?

My book shows a crankpin journal size of 2.999 (the same as a G) and the wristpin diameter of 1.7495 (also the same as a G). I"m still looking for the rod length.

anybody got a way to dyno a tractor using the nine bolt hub?

I bolted my adaptor to the cover of the belt pulley. The adaptor turns with the belt pulley. When you engage the clutch, the belt pulley spins and the adaptor spins. It works good.
