    Oliver ID help request

The serial number makes it a 1957 tractor. The catch is that the Super 77 and the Super 88 had almost the same serial number range for that year, so I can't give you the model from the serial number. For that you need someone with a reference source for the model numbers.

    Oliver identification

According to the book I have, that serial number makes it a 1953 Row Crop 88 (Fleetline).

    Transmission Codes

The serial numbers in the Larry Gay book confirm your 1655 as made in 1971. Mine was made in 1969.

Oliver 1650 high speed serial/model numbers

Years ago I had an 880 with a slow transmission. "Barely 12 mph" would be about right. It was way slower than the Super 88 I had at the same time.

    Transmission Codes

Talk about a can of worms. Some years back I sent for the build cards for my 1850 and 1655 which also included sheets with the build card codes. I'm going to list some numbers from those sheets. The 1850 sheet says: Oliver "50 Series" Build Card Numbers. There are 37 different transmission...

    Brake locks on 1550

My 1850 has that style brake lock. When the brakes are depressed, two u-shaped pieces with notches rise up through two holes in the floorboard. When pulled backward the notches engage the little piece of sheet metal bolted to the floorboard. That set up was never fool proof on my 1850. Sometimes...

    Tractor size for square baling?

I currently bale with 70 HP, but for 30 years I baled with tractors in the 45 to 55 HP range. On hills, with a kicker baler and wagon. With only four acres you don't have to be fussy, other than having live pto.

    Rifle on a tractor again

Any time I'm driving a tractor, I've got hearing protection on. I developed tinnitus from tractors and chain saws a long time ago. So I got in the habit of wearing ear muff type protection. Once I found out about the ones with a built-in radio I was hooked. I probably should mention that all my...

    Rifle on a tractor again

.357 revolver in the tool box next to the seat. Coyotes and woodchucks. So far.

    Oliver 1650 - left brake

Along with something wrong inside the drum, have you tried adjusting the left brake? Flip the connecter out of the way, and push each pedal down by hand. Do the two pedals bottom out at about the same level, or does the left pedal go much lower? If it does, try adjusting that pedal. There is a...

Super 88 Diesel Dual Oil Filters

Sounds right. I used to have a 1956 Super 88 Diesel with dual filters.

    Oliver 1650 oil change

John- I gave the number stamped on that dipstick to a parts guy at Maibach today, and he said it was for the 310 Waukesha. Looks like someone lost a dipstick years ago and just grabbed the first one they could find.

    Oliver 1650 oil change

I was talking to a parts guy at Maibach on the phone today sorting out my dipstick story. I mentioned the manuals giving capacities of 8 qts. crankcase, and 1 and a half quarts filter. His reply was: I don't know about that, but I'm looking at a White chart on the wall right now that says 9...

    Oliver 1650 oil change

It's a 1655 Row Crop. Late 1969, early 1655 production. My parts book is from the Floyd County Museum. It's all parts lists and diagrams, I haven't seen any commentary in it.

    Oliver 1650 oil change

After your earlier comment, John, I looked in my parts manual. It does show two dipsticks. One 11.5. The other 11 and seven-eights. Mine appears to be the longer one. That doesn't tell me if it's the right one. Both part numbers default to the same different part number. The dipstick has a...

    Oliver 1650 oil change

I have the opposite situation. In my 1655 diesel, 8 quarts run over the full line. About in the middle of the word FULL. I can't bring myself to run it with less than 8 quarts so I just accept it. Makes you wonder about the calibration of the dip sticks doesn't it?

    Oliver 1550 loader lift capacity?

Back when I had a 1610 loader, it was rated 2,000 pound lift, 3.000 pound breakaway.

    Front axle question

My 1850 came off the assembly line August 8, 1966 according to the build card. It has the wishbone below the center tube. So the change was in effect midway through the third year of 1850 production.

    hyd coupling

My Kuhn discbine was the same way with the swingout cylinder. Which never made sense since there is an in-line shutoff that should keep pressure off the coupler when in the closed position. Plugging in and unplugging from the 1850 drove me crazy. I bit the bullet and put the high pressure...

    Oliver 1750 hydraulic pump

Some years back when I bought my 2-70, two months later the hydraulic pump died. The replacement I got from Maibach was an aftermarket pump. I've got over 600 hours so far and it's still going.
