    SOS mechanic

I bought mine from an estate sale. So I dont know history. PTO cable was seized and broke. Something strange with other cable. They had the top off transmission when I bought it. Not sure all the problems. Engine runs. I am 18 hours from you. But I got kids in BC. About 4 or 5 hours away from...

    ford 3000 SOS

Hello. Do you still have the transmissions? I have a 63 4000 sos. With tranny not working. And I don t have a mechanic in the area that has worked on these. Is the tranny the same as the 3000? Thanks quote="Tequila"](reply to post at 07:51:24 09/05/22)

    Front loader problem

I have a Bush Hog model 2425 QT front end loader with a joy stick control. The joy stick control will raise the loader, lower the loader, and curl the bucket as it should. The problem comes when you dump the bucket. The control will dump the bucket but it is very, very slow and sometimes...

    Versatile 118

I fixed a 850 Versatile last winter. It was fun. I ended up selling it. Looking for another winter project. A 118 would be interesting. Would be interested in finding one to buy.

    Versatile 850

All good comments. Thanks. Yes this tractor ran an air seeder fan in a past life. And yes I need to push the lever ahead or back to start the oil flow in my loop line. I have ordered the service manual on Amazon. I hope it has a hydraulic schematic. I will make everything as per original as I...

    Versatile 850

Hello. Any Versatile owners out there. I recently purchased an 850 series 2. It had been sitting outside unused for at least 6 years. It is running fine but I have a couple issues. Hydraulics seem to be deadheading. To prevent overheating I use a loop hose on one of the hydraulic outlets. Also...

Proper way to do a compression test. 4cyl 4000 172

Still working on my rebuilt diesel 172. Kinda runs on a couple cylinders. Smoke like crazy. I finally got a good compression tester. I need to know exactly how to do a compression test. I took all injectors out and rocker shaft and push rods. My bracket to hold in the tester adapter wouldn t fit...

4020 power shift. Won t go into 8th

Ok. Thanks guys. I got up enough nerve to take that shift box on the right hand side off for inspection. I had already determined the local wrecker had several to buy. Low and behold a roll pin had worked it s way out over the years on the lower lever. It seemed it could be binding. Replaced...

4020 power shift. Won t go into 8th

Thanks. Because of the cab that is on tractor I had never seen this lever by left heel. I can t move it. It is frozen. I expect it has never been moved. Unsure how hard I should try. Don t want to break something.

4020 power shift. Won t go into 8th

Hi guys, Just tuning up my 4020. Did compression check and it checked out just fine. New injectors got the engine purring nicely. It is hard to get it to shift into 7th. But lever bottoms in top of slot and it won t shift into 8th. New filters and checked suction screen. Screen was perfectly...

    Front axle 1963 Ford 4000

Haven’t pulled the trigger on my axle yet. Still looking. My free time has been spent trying to get the rebuilt motor running smooth. Starts but very rough and lots of smoke. Has to be a timing issue, but can’t seem to get it right. Have had the diesel pump rebuilt and the injectors reconditioned.

    Front axle 1963 Ford 4000

Went to see the lady with the 8N. She didn’t want to sell just the axle (understandable) but needed $1100 to part with the complete tractor. That plus the freight to go get it. I think I shall keep looking. Her grandkids like to play on it. I can relate to her. I have all sorts of stuff I can’t...

    Front axle 1963 Ford 4000

I don’t understand all the numbers and letters on Larry’s post. But I was looking on external link site. They showed the same front axle number for 8N, 600, 800, 2000 & 4000. 1947 thru 1964. If that is to be believed shouldn’t that give me some confidence they should all be the same? Maybe...

    Front axle 1963 Ford 4000

Ok. Thanks again. So Royse, since it is an 8N the axles are not likely to fit? They look identical.

    Front axle 1963 Ford 4000

I am going back to measure things up. I shall look for the serial number to verify the model. I would expect the axles would be a different size but we shall see. Thanks
