    jimb 2 thanks heaps that parts list is great. Had a look at my dozer this morning and no 4 has gone sloppy? Do the gudgeon or big ends normally go in these d239. Whatever it is it went quickly.

    the stress has gone. Just bought a 574 inter with d239 for 500 so if td8 engine is stuffed bottom end i will be right. Looking at specs the 574 seems like a pretty good tractor so hopefully it will be a doer upper. Only probs is fuel shaft broken a small pin so i am thinking silver solder and refit

    Also checked piston height off liner top and no 4 was 5 thou lower but all rest seemed ok so may be slight bend in rod or liner height differences

    Not sure labour costs over your way but here in Australia they are a killer so if you are mechanically minded they not too hard to repair hard part would be undoing gland but if you can cut and weld would not be that hard.then clean burrs off rod with a rubstone and take pic's as seals come off...

    Gday Chris Sounds like seals or piston has come off cylinder. Or main relief for boom or cyl check valves if they have them. If not too hard swap hoses from one function to another like boom to bucket or similar. That will let you know if the problem is in valving or cyl. Just becareful as oil...

    Thanks JM email sent Funny thing is ive got an old hough 30 with a d236 in it to lift the engine out but i have to fix it as the engine rattled and missed about six months ago. Its on the to do list. Have another hough 30 as well stripped that one and has a cracked liner just waiting to fix that...

    Thanks Jim i am guessing no 4 has broken rings as oil when drained had an aluminium look to it. I swapped injectors from 1 to 4 and 4 was still missing 2 and 3 seemed to make a slight difference when cracked but 1 made the most difference.
