    Quick Hitch on a 8N?

Thinking of getting one of these, https://www.harborfreight.com/3-point-quick-hitch-27-3-16-inch-clearance-97214.html any reason not to use one on an 8N? I'm constantly switching between a disc tiller, a scraper box, and soon a pto chipper, and maybe a mower and wrestling the floating...

48 8N runs for 10-30 seconds, then stalls too easily...

so I figured I'd get that plug out and check the fuel flow rate before I mess around with it hot... pull the plug, turn on the fuel valve, and just a steady drip-drip-drip, not even close to the rate you say, hey, WTF. pull the glass float bowl off, oopen that valve, drip drip drip...

48 8N runs for 10-30 seconds, then stalls too easily...

FYI... I replaced the points plate in the distributor, because the screws that hold the points in place were stripped and would not hold the points so they were floating all over the place. The points are gapped 0.015" and static timed per the diagrams I've seen. I replaced the starter...

48 8N runs for 10-30 seconds, then stalls too easily...

figure its time for a new thread, because I've moved on to the end game here. 1948 Front distributor 8N, with a 12V alternator, coil, and starter.. history to date... son overheated, dumped coolant all over ignition, AND fried the starter... in process of sorting that out, I discovered...

    12V front distributor coil resistance.

getting back to this after a few weeks (had to evac for the CZU fire in the santa cruz mountains, but back home, then suffered through a heat wave, then days of massive smoke). so I just hooked my DC ammeter up to the coil circuit, and when the engine starts and runs for 10-15 seconds, I'm...

    No start 8N PLEASE HELP

    Ammeter/wiring problem on my 8n

more specifically, it LIMITS coil current. the resistor is designed so it heats up, initially its lower resistance so you get more/hotter spark when you start the engine, then as current flows, it heats up and raises the resistance to reduce the current so you don't end up burning out the...

    No start 8N PLEASE HELP

hmm? the front distributor only goes on one way, as the driving slot is off center, and the rotor only goes on the shaft one way.... or are you talking about a side distributor?

    Ammeter/wiring problem on my 8n

I don't know if anyone makes reproductions of the original meter, but there's a wide range of similar sized meters available in the marine market. For instance... https://www.defender.com/product.jsp?name=vdo-marine-vision-black-60-amp-ammeter&path=-1|311|2349076|2349077&id=1674468

    Ammeter/wiring problem on my 8n

as long as the shunt is intact, yes. the shunt carries 99.9% of the current, only 0.1% goes through the ammeter itself, they are typically a 1mA mechanism

the block drain is on the left side of the tractor, midway between the oil filter and starter. my old radiator didn't have a petcock or drain of any sort, however.

    ‘48 8n coolant Issue

well, since I was in there, I pulled the distributor to clean the outside, and check the points, and low and behold one of the screws that holds the points to the plate was stripped, the tiny cutter pin that holds the points rocker onto the shaft was sheared off, and the points were all gummed...
