    Deere #5 sickle mower?

Definitely a #5. I cut hay for many years with a couple different 5's and then cut Township roadsides for many years with them after I bought a Haybine. Looking at your pictures I would be looking for parts machines or try and source used parts for some stuff. Deere had alot of parts available...

    Starter problems still going on

I would replace the Bendix if the starter is spinning fine on the bench. The 3000 starter I referred to in your previous post spun fine on the bench the drive came out like should have but the drive was stripped out inside and wouldn't turn the motor over at all. Installed the new drive from my...

    Disc Mowers

I've got a Frontier disc mower I believe it's a 2019 model year, it has the cutter bar with the common sump for the turtles. I only use it for Township roadside mowing it was previously a MnDOT mower so it's spent pretty much all it's hours running with the bar downhill. Have not had any...

    NH 479 Haybine Questions

I ran a pair of 479's for years replaced 1 roller bearing on one of them and never had any other bearing failures after that. You do have to take the drive chains and the sprocket off the shaft to get to the bearing but as rustred said not that bad of a job. I agree the 3 1/2 cylinder should...

    3-cyl 2000 starter not engaging

Yes you can just replace the bendix, I had the same problem on a 3000 a couple years ago. This was a factory rebuilt from CNH it lasted about a year and would just spin, took it off and installed a new bendix and it's been working fine since. I purchased the bendix from a local rebuilder...

    A big cloud?

I'm guessing the ignition coil blew the oil out of itself. Time for a new coil. Was the key left on? Usually that's what causes them to overheat and blow up.

    Another batwing question

I am up in NE Mn and I mow alot of old pastures as well as old logging roads and we have plenty of rocks as well as stumps. I am on my 3rd rotary mower all were bought used and the heavy duty Alamo I'm using now is the first one to have a stump jumper. That being said I wouldn't be afraid of a...

    1950 JD Model A question

Is it water or anti freeze? If it sat outside for an extended period of time could be a combination of rain water and condensation if you are in a area that see's cold weather. I'm in N. Mn. and I've owned several A's and they used to be parked outside and it was not unusual to find quite a bit...

    Allis Chalmers oil filter

We had the low oil pressure problem too, my son was in VoTech and majored a WD the school was 150 miles away from home so just hauled the engine to the school and installed at home. I don't remember for sure if was a Wix or Napa but we couldn't get the oil pressure much above the safe operating...

    6080 thrust bearing

I believe the spec is .003'' to .013'' with .015'' max. I am going to shoot for .005''. I'm putting a clutch in it and the endplay is at .010'' now.

    Sharpening rotary mower blades

If you are cutting mostly weeds or very small brush sharper is good as it cuts cleaner. If chopping brush of any size duller is better, shattering the stumps helps to keep them from poking through your tires next time you mow it. At least that works best for me.

    6080 thrust bearing

OK thanks. I'm assuming it's not to tough to install, bolt up the bearing holder to the front pulley and mount the bracket and set end play with the shims? If I'm seeing this right.

    6080 thrust bearing

I am going to be installing one of the external thrust bearing kits on a 6060, does anybody out there have a copy of the installation instructions for it? I've got the used kit from a salvage yard just wondering if I could find the instructions.

Old gas tank with varnish and fuel and E-85

In the last year I used the E85 to clean the gas tank on a Super M I bought that had been sitting about 15 years, it was really a mess but various E85 soakings I then put a couple gallons of Diesel and 12,000 BB's in it and strapped to the rear wheel of my 4000 Ford and drove it around for a...

    Shout out to Bern

Hey Bern, I was looking at an old thread about a 5000 getting coolant in the oil. You replied about a liquid epoxy type sealer poured into the block to seal up rust through out the bottom of the water jacket, I was wondering what the product was you used. My machinist has a block in now out of...
