    1948 8N rebuild progress

You dont use any heat or agitation and it still does the job? Got any photos of the stripped parts?

    1948 8N rebuild progress

They quoted the wrong post. I accidentally typed glycol earlier instead of glyptal.

    1948 8N rebuild progress

It will be at least for some time. It was not the original plan but did turn into that. I want to take it to shows and maybe do some tractor rides with it for a few years at least. Eventually it might get some light work but I want to preserve it and pass it on to another family member...

    1948 8N rebuild progress

I am going to prime and do some of the body work to get them smooth before assembly. Still deciding on when I want to paint the red but the plan at this point is to assemble the main structure minus the engine and the hydraulics when painting the red. I dont want too much assembled because it...

    1948 8N rebuild progress

Thanks for the info showcrop. Parts came out pretty clean. Little bit of flash rust and lots of pits and imperfections in the cast iron. Going to coat them with some body filler most likely and sand that out. Getting a coat of epoxy primer first though and coating the inside with the glyptal...

    1948 8N rebuild progress

Been working on cleaning up the barn pretty much every day for the past week. Lots of progress there. I did get some parts cleaner for the parts tank which did nothing for the old baked on sediment. Looking into making me a hot tank now. I am also picking up the parts from the metal cleaners...

Picked up my second 8N today

Do any local autopart stores sell the oil drain plug gaskets? Cant find it by cross referencing. Got the wix number for the filter.

What I did to my 8N today(and yesterday)

Sounds like fun. I was working on cleaning up the barn so I have a somewhat organized area to work on both tractors. Maybe we should start a thread titled “What did you do to your tractor today?” Those kind of post are always popular on the auto forums.

Picked up my second 8N today

Why would the leveling link be contacting the axle housing when the arms are down. I know the links are bent and need straightened but not sure if that would fix this issue.

    Engine oil recommendation

To make a long story short It really depends on the engine. They also have rotella t6 in many different viscosities. Unless we all start doing uoa’s on our tractors who knows but I plan to use an oil that is better suited for flat tappet engines like rotella or valvoline vr1.

Ford 8N Spark, Gas, Air- no start!

Firing order is 1,2,4,3 and its counter clockwise on the cap. Not my photo but got it from a google search. The notch on the back of the distributor that goes into the cam is offset and has to be put back on correctly as well.

Picked up my second 8N today

Hi, thanks for the tip. I am aware there should be 3 screens. 2 on the sediment bowl and one on the carb elbow. Like I had mentioned this will prob be rebuilt before too long but this fuel setup was driving me nuts. It now has a proper sediment bowl, hardline, and elbow on the carb. The bowl...

Picked up my second 8N today

Nice! I am itching to start on this one as well lol. Even though im sure the motor needs a refresh I couldnt stand to look at the rigged fuel line setup and throwing a new sediment bowl on it tomorrow and the old fuel line off my 48 along with the elbow that goes in the carb. So hopefully no...

Picked up my second 8N today

Looks like I need to make some adjustments to the dash. Makes it a little difficult to remove the shifter plate bolts.

    Rear axle trumpet removal

It just pulls out. I would say its 50 pounds at least.

    Rear axle trumpet removal

I was going to do it that way on my 50 8N and still might but figured while I fixed the leaking pins I may as well do the brakes and axle seals at the same time.

    Replace clutch assembly on 8n

Where did you buy your kit from? I will steer clear of that one.

8N shuts off after running for a while

I would also guess it has to do with the resistance to the coil although im no wiring expert that is where I would start and I would check the ohms through the resistor when it quits and check the ohms on the coil. Also check to make sure your still getting the expected voltage. Not much to the...

    Replaced the fuel tank today,

Look up the JMOR wiring diagrams and study them. Like HFJ said its pretty simple as there is only a few wires. I bought a kit with the harness but I may still make my own so I can use the terminals I want and the braided wiring loom instead of the cheap plastic stuff. I have the 1 wire...
