JD920 won't start when engine is hot

I stopped at a JD shop this past weekend and spoke with a mechanic. He agreed, as long as I can put my hand on the IP, it is safe to pour cold water on it. Hotter than that, don't do it.

JD920 won't start when engine is hot

Thanks Jim.me. Logic suggests this might happen, or worse, warp or crack depending on how hot. I did notice, while looking through receipts from the previous owner, they had bought an IP gasket, which I was given with the tractor. Perhaps the owner knew of this issue, planned to fix but...

JD920 won't start when engine is hot

Thank you Tx Jim! A couple of questions: 1. putting cool water on a hot IP won't hurt it? 2. The steering/hyd pump comment, what does that do? 3. This I had wondered about when I changed the battery. Thought the ground cable to the sheet metal a little odd, when my other vehicles ground to the...

JD920 won't start when engine is hot

Our JD920 has about 580 hours on it after a complete engine rebuild by John Deere (previous owner paid for that). Tractor starts well and runs well, even in winter. Batteries are both new. This weekend was the first time we did some heavier work in the summer time, and ran the tractor for about...

New owner of an old JD920

Both good points. For now I am surviving on these rims, and will patch them once the new workshop is up. Also looking for a proper sized bucket for the loader. Currently using an 8' snow bucket, which is proving problematic.

New owner of an old JD920

Possibly missing the photo? One of my reasons I bought the 920 was that I grew up on the same farm with a 1020. Only big feature I miss is the quick forward/reverse.

New owner of an old JD920

@fdt860 I am curious, what makes this an LU? And what is LU. I've tried to search and came up empty handed on this, except for this post appear in search results. Thanks.

New owner of an old JD920

Hi! Thanks for the reply. Currently 15-7JA rims with 9.5L x 15 tires. I'd assume going to 16-8 is a larger rim? You are the second person to suggest repairing over buying new. Beginning to believe this might be the best option as well. Unless I luck out with set from a tractor junkyard.

New owner of an old JD920

Last week we became the proud owners of a slightly abused JD920 with cab, front loader and New Holland snow blower on the back. One previous owner was a car dealer ship, and they installed a 5th wheel attachment to the front loader, and seemingly let the tractor get quite rusty, lots of pock...
